As one of the world’s most reliable and transparent exchanges, KuCoin has required Identity Verification for its users since November 1, 2018. This article will help you understand the Identity Verification process (also known as Know Your Customer, or KYC), how it works, and questions that you may have about the process.

In line with KYC principles, to better meet legal requirements, and with the goal of enhancing user account security, KuCoin will be introducing enhancements to its Identity Verification procedures, effective August 31, 2023, at 00:00 (UTC). As part of our commitment to curbing illicit activities, such as money laundering and terrorist financing, users will be required to submit identification documents and complete face verification to pass the Identity Verification process.

Note:

  1. Starting from August 31, 2023 (UTC), new users must complete Identity Verification in order to use KuCoin's products and services.

  2. For users who registered before August 31, 2023 (UTC) but have not completed standard Identity Verification before then, they will only be able to use the remaining services: selling cryptocurrencies, closing futures contracts, closing margin positions, redeeming from KuCoin Earn, and redeeming ETFs. During this time, they will not have access to deposit services (withdrawal services will not be affected).

As such, to ensure the normal use of your account, we strongly recommend that you complete standard Identity Verification as soon as possible. Completing Identity Verification not only enables you to fully enjoy higher-quality and stable services, but also ensures the safety of your funds and account. This prevents others from fraudulently using your identity for deceitful or illegal activities.

If you run into any problems during the verification process, feel free to contact our customer support team. Thank you for your understanding and support!

FAQs:

Q1: What limitations will be imposed on my account if I choose not to finish Identity Verification?

A: New users must complete the Identity Verification before using KuCoin's products and services. For users who registered before August 31, 2023 (UTC) but have not completed the identity verification by that date, they will only be able to use the  remaining services: selling cryptocurrencies, closing futures contracts, closing margin positions, redeeming from KuCoin Earn, and redeeming ETFs. During this time, they will not have access to deposit services (withdrawal services will not be affected).

To better protect our users’ funds, we make dynamic adjustments to the requirements and associated benefits of standard Identity Verification. These adjustments are based on platform security requirements, local compliance policies, the unique features of our various business products, and the online environment.

Security is one of KuCoin's top concerns. To protect your account and avoid any potential theft of your assets, KuCoin uses Google Authenticator, which adds an extra layer of security.

This article shows you the steps for Google 2-Step Verification (2FA) binding, unbinding, and some frequently asked questions.

Contents

1. Why Google 2FA
2. How to Bind Google 2FA
3. Reasons for Invalid Google 2FA Code
4. How to Restore/Unbind Google 2FA

1. Why Google 2FA

When setting up a new KuCoin account, you have to set a password to protect your account, but a password alone is not enough. To add another layer of security to your account, it is strongly recommended to bind Google Authenticator to your KuCoin account. It can help prevent unauthorized logins even when your password has been leaked.

Google Authenticator is an authenticator app by Google that implements two-step verification services using a time-based one-time password. The app offers a 6-digit dynamic code that changes every 30 seconds, and each verification code can only be used once. Once you have bound it, you will be asked to fill in the dynamic code for login, withdrawal, API creation, etc.

2. How to Bind Google 2FA

The Google Authenticator app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Go to the store and search for Google Authenticator to find and download it.

If you already have the app, let's check out how to bind it to your KuCoin account.

Step 1: Log in to your KuCoin account. Click the avatar on the upper-right corner and select Account Security in the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Find Security Settings, click Set, and then click Send Code. An email verification code will be sent to your registered e-mail address.

Step 3: Next, you will see a page below. Please record the Google Secret Key and store it in a secure place. You will need it to restore your Google 2FA if you lose your phone or accidentally delete the Google Authenticator app.

Step 4: Once you have saved the Secret Key, open the Google Authenticator app on your phone, click the "+" icon to add a new code. Click on Scan barcode to open your camera and scan the code. It will set up the Google Authenticator for KuCoin and start generating the 6-digit code.Bind_google_2fa.png

Step 5: Lastly, enter the 6-digit code shown on your phone into the Google Verification Code box, and click on the Activate button to complete. Verify_code.png

Tips:

  • Please correct the server time in the Authenticator if you have an Android device. Select "Settings – Time correction for codes."
  • Some phones need to be restarted after binding. Please also turn on 24-Hour Time and Set Automatically in Settings General Date & Time.
  • Adjust_time_5.png
  • For login, trading, and withdrawal, users are required to enter the verification code.
  • Please do NOT delete the Google Authenticator from your phone.
  • Please enter the correct Google 2-step verification code. If you enter the wrong verification code five times, the Google 2-step verification will be locked for 2 hours.

3. Reasons for Invalid Google 2FA Code

If the Google 2FA code is invalid, ensure that you have done the following:

(1). Please ensure you entered the 2FA code for the correct account if multiple accounts’ 2FAs were bound to one phone;

(2). The Google 2FA code is only valid for 30 seconds, please be sure to enter it within 30 seconds;

(3). Please ensure the time on the Google Authenticator App on your phone is synchronized with the time on the Google server.

How to synchronize the time on your phone (Android Only)

Step 1. Click "Settings"

Step 2. Click "Time Correction for Codes" – "Sync now"

____.jpg

If this doesn't work, please rebind Google 2-Step Verification if you saved the 16-digit Secret Key.

Step 3. If you did not save the 16-digit Secret Key and failed to access your Google 2FA code, please kindly read Part 4 to unbind Google 2FA.

4. How to Restore/Unbind Google 2FA

If you cannot access the Google Authenticator app for any reason, please follow the guidance below to restore or unbind it.

(1). If you saved your Google Secret Key, just rebind it in the Google Authenticator app and it will start generating a new code. For security reasons, please delete the previous code in your Google 2FA app once you have set a new one.

(2). If you did not save the Google Secret Key, please click 2-FA unavailable? to unbind it. You will be asked to fill in the Email Verification Code and Trading Password. Next, you will be required to upload the requested ID information to verify your identity.

This may sound inconvenient, but please understand that the Google 2FA code is a very important security setting, and we will not unbind it before verifying who is submitting the request. Once we have verified your information, the Google Authenticator will be unbound in 1–3 business days.

(3). If you got a new device and want to transfer Google 2FA to it, please log in to your KuCoin account to change 2FA in the account security settings. Please refer to the screenshots below for detailed steps.

Happy trading on KuCoin!

When you make some transactions or change some settings on KuCoin, a verification code may be sent to you via email or SMS to verify your identity and protect your security.

If you failed to receive such a code, this article explains some common reasons and gives a few tangible solutions.

Contents

1. Cannot Receive Email Code

2. Cannot Receive SMS Message

1. Cannot Receive Email Code

1) Please make sure you are checking the same email address that was used to register a KuCoin account.

2) The delay of the verification email is often caused by network issues, so please refresh your mailbox or click the Send Code button again before waiting for one or two more minutes.

3) Please note: If your registered an account with your corporate email address, there will be a series of security interceptions that may block emails. Personal email is recommended

4) Your mailbox storage is full. Due to the upper limit of mailbox storage, you need to clear some emails, otherwise the emails will not be sent out

5) Sometimes, the email may have landed in your spam box, so be sure to check there. It is also highly recommended to add the no-reply@kucoin.com email address to your mailbox's whitelist to prevent the email going to spam in the future.

Tips:

  • Check this article to find out more about How to add a whitelist to a Google mailbox.
  • Please note that each email code is valid for 10 minutes.
  • If you have clicked the Resend button multiple times, please input the code from the most-recent email.

2. Cannot Receive SMS Message

The most common cause of this is the congestion of the SMS gateway. It is recommended for you to contact our online support or click on the Send Code button again to get the code later.

If you have some security apps on your mobile phone, they may block SMS messages from KuCoin by mistake. In such a case, open the app and turn off the related features temporarily, then click on the Send Code button again to get a new code.

There are other reasons that may lead to your phone not receiving the SMS message, these include an insufficient balance on the phone, the phone's storage being full, or you having requested the SMS code too frequently.

We understand your anxiety when faced with such an issue. Please reach out to our 24/7 customer support via online chat or submit a ticket and we will try our best to help you as soon as possible.
